Obituary of James Charles "Chuck" Slaton

James Charles "Chuck" Slaton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on Nov 16, 2023 after an unfair fight with Pancreatic cancer.

Chuck was the second child, to Carmen Lorene Thornbrugh and James Floyd Slaton, born on Oct 14, 1946 in Coffeyville, Kansas. 

In 1957, his family moved to Denver, Colorado, where he became a lifelong Broncos fan.  Chuck graduated from Englewood High School class of 1964.  Soon after, he joined the US Army and served his country from 1964-1970 in both Vietnam and Korea. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic acheivements. After returning home, he met his wife, Deboraa Mullins, and her daughter Lena, who became the loves of his life. He married Deboraa on Dec 8, 1972. 

Once Chuck's parents retired, they returned to their hometown of Coffeyville Ks and Chuck's family soon followed.  Chuck lived and worked in Coffeyville for 30 years, until his daughter Lena finally convinced them to leave winter behind and move to Cocoa, Florida to be closer to her family and his grandchildren.  Chuck loved Florida, and spent much of his time enjoying his grandchildren and their extracurricular activities, rooting for their games, contests and events.  Besides his family, Chuck loved a quiet day at home reading book after book after book. 

Chuck is survived by his wife of almost 51 years Deboraa Slaton, his big sister Carman Luckey, brother in law Dale Luckey, little sister Mary Slaton, daughter Lena Idone, son in law Jason Idone and grandchildren Isabella Idone and Gavin Idone, nephews TImothy Luckey, James Noland, Samuel Noland, Charles Slaton and his many great nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his Parents Lorene and Floyd Slaton, sister Barbara Noland and nephew David Luckey.

 A military service will be held at 12:30PM, Wednesday, December 13, 2023 in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
