Obituary of William Robert Williamson

William R. Williamson

Age 96, formerly of Penn Yan, NY, passed away in Melbourne, FL on Saturday, January 6, 2024 with his loving daughter, Connie, at his side.

William was born in Greece, NY on December 13, 1927, the son of James and Arvilla Williamson.  He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Grace (Owen) Williamson, in 2010 and step-daughter, Carol Hall in 2021; 14 brothers and sisters; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Lillian Owen.

He is survived by his daughter, Connie (Glen) McClary; granddaughter Nicole (Anthony) Boyd; great-grandsons, Anthony Boyd, and Nicholas Boyd; Son-in-law, Glen McClary; and close cousin, June Satterly.

Upon completing high school, he served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.  "Bill" and Grace were the former owners of Owen's Taxi for many years in Penn Yan. Bill was previously a Cadillac and Pontiac Salesman for Covert and Malcolm Auto Sales prior to being the Office Manager at NYS DOT.  He loved retiring to Florida 33 years ago! Even during retirement years ago to Florida, William remained actively involved in his community. He found fulfillment volunteering his time driving patients to the VA Hospital & Shriners Hospital. He was a member of the Shriners, Elks, Moose, Masons, American Legion, Corning Consistory and Eastern Stars for many years.  Bill greatly enjoyed engaging in activities such as playing Slo-pitch and golf.   Bill had many wonderful friends, old and new, in both New York State and Florida. He loved his family so much!  They will miss him dearly!

A private graveside service will be held in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.  Memorial donations in his memory may be directed to the SPCA of Brevard (PO Box 5513, Titusville, FL 32783) or the Lupus Foundation.  The address for each charity is listed in his obituary at www.WeldonFuneralHome.com.  Arrangements entrusted to Weldon Funeral Home, Penn Yan.
